5 Questions That Will Make or Break Your Video Projects

Let’s get right to it. You want to know what a professional video might actually cost. Here is our best at avoiding a vague answer.

Typical Budget Ranges

Below are real-world ranges based on actual projects. Each example is a project we’ve produced for a client in that tier.

Smaller projects: $5,000–$15,000
Shorter pieces like digital ads, gala films, impact stories, brand videos, or sales content. Usually one or two shoot days, minimal revisions, and one to three deliverables.

Nonprofit Impact Story
Brand Story Video

Mid-sized campaigns: $15,000–$30,000
Often includes strategic planning, more involved project management, multiple shoot days, several videos or formats, and heavier post-production.

Nonprofit Documentary
Legacy Tribute Film

Major series or national campaigns: $30,000+
Includes broader scope, more locations, project management support, larger crews, and additional creative or motion graphics.

We price based on scope. You’re paying for time, talent, and experience. Here’s how it breaks down.

What affects the cost?

  • Pre-Production: Discovery, messaging strategy, coaching, scheduling support
  • Production: Crew size, shoot days, travel, gear, direction, professional talent
  • Post-Production: Editing, color, audio mixing, revisions, captioning
  • Advanced Motion Graphics: Tasteful, simple, story-driven animations that elevate the message, kinetic text, custom logo animations, or branded visual designs that feel intentional, not templated
  • Deliverables: How many videos you need, and for what platforms

Nonprofit vs. Commercial Rates

At Storyteller Studios, our rates are adjusted based on project type and purpose. Most of our nonprofit clients spend $7,000–$20,000. Commercial campaigns often land closer to $20,000–$50,000, depending on reach and scale.

Tips for budgeting your next video

  1. Know what you want the video to do. Raise money? Win trust? Drive clicks? Clarity here saves money later.
  2. Decide if one video is enough or if you’ll need cutdowns for web, social, or email.
  3. Think shelf life. A great video can last years, but a time-sensitive campaign should be priced with an expiration date in mind.
  4. Be honest about where it fits in your broader strategy. Is this a centerpiece or a supporting piece?
